Terbang ka-Barat - Visit to England

[Part2]:Visit to England

H. Aminurrashid's visit to London covered Hyde Park, the old London, Tower of London, Royal Mint, the General Post Office, the Office of Crown Agent and Fleet Street.
His visit to BBC (where he discover the magic of television) and met up with Murtadza Za'ba and an Englishman who once worked in Kelantan.
The Englishman spoke Bahasa Melayu halus and asked Harun Aminurrashid if "...Harun Aminurrashid telah bersiram di London yang sedang menghadapi udara sejok dan katanya bagaimana rasa saya beradu dibilik hotel. Nampaknya ia telah salah pakai. Sa-patutnya perkataan itu hanya untuk raja sahaja. Tuan ini menjadi sa-bagai penasihat bahagian Melayu kapada BBC..."[pp80].

He then visited the industrial city of Birmingham.
In Birmingham he discovered big and well-organised farms (with knowledgeable farmers and their equally educated children, modern heavy machineries, large number of dairy cattles) – unlike the farmers in Tanah Melayu; many of whom lived in difficulties and even more difficulties to educate their children.
He also visited the Dunlop factory (which used raw material such as rubber that came from Tanah Melayu) to make all sorts and sizes of tyres and rubber-based mats.

After visiting the Shakespeare Village (in Stratford-on-Avon), he visited:
(*)Harvard House -John Harvard (the founder of Harvard University)'s home at High Street
(*)Coventry (the car/planes/engines/fabric manufacturing town.

In Liverpool, he managed to make a stop at Kirby College – a teaching college for students from Malaya who would eventually taught at English schools in Malaya. {*If I recalled correctly, my headmistress (circa 1975-80) of SRK Jalan Padang Tembak 2, Puan Kamariah was a graduate of Kirby}. The Principal at Kirby during Harun Aminurrashid visit was Bert William. At Kirby H. Aminurrashid met with Che Ramlah who was suffering from foot blisters – "...ia kena sakit kaki kerana melechet terlampau banyak berjalan dan chuba hendak berjalan macham orang Barat chepat2. Akhirnya terpaksa terbaring di-rumah sakit, kaki dimakan sepatu."

In Brockhill (a border between Nottingham [the place where all beautiful English women came from], and Kirby), he and his fellow journalist entourage descended 1000 feet below the ground to visit the coal-mine. The mine used horses (kuda padi) to transfer timbers below the ground. The horses were so used to darkness, that when they we brought up to the surface of the earth once a year- for about a week to makan angin atau melihat dunia, they turn temporarily gila.

In old city of Cambridge, his entourage managed to get lost in the University of Cambridge, which were made up of 20 (two of which, for women) colleges with 8000 students. The oldest college is Peter House, built in 1281.

After Cambridge, they visited Papworth Village Settlement, the biggest settlement and treatment facility in the world {at the time} for tuberculosis treatment.

The visit to England ended with visit to the Windsor Castle.
