Maqam Ibrahim

The most popular opinion about Maqam Ibrahim is, Maqam Ibrahim is the place where Nabi Ibrahim 'Alayhissalam stood to build the Holy Ka'ba and his footprints are there. Other opinion is that Maqam Ibrahim are the places where Nabi Ibrahim 'Alayhissalam stood to offer his prayer to Allah.

During the era of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam, Saidina Umar Al-Khattab asked the permission of our beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam to erect a place where Muslims can offer their prayer to Allah at Maqam Ibrahim. Then came a revelation to our beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam, in the form of Ayat 125 from the Surah Al-Baqarah.

2:125 Remember We made the House(the Kaabah at Makkah) a place of resort for mankind and a place of safety; and take you(people) the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (or the stone on which Ibrahim 'Alayhissalam stood while he was building the Kaabah ) as a place of prayer(for some of your prayers, eg. two Raka'at after the Tawaf of the Kaabah at Makkah); and We commanded Ibrahim and Isma'il, that they should purify My House for those who circumambulating it, or staying (I'tikaf), or bow, or prostrate themselves (there, in prayer).
