An evening with Mr Barney
Every evening when it' about estimated time for mysanc to enter the gate, mak would distract Mr Barney and Batman into doing something else. Forget Tangkak, Forget Nilai3 ... - Monday, Nov. 21, 2005
Otherwise Mr Barney would make a mad dash to the car (and if Batman was fast enough, he'd follow suit) and the following conversation would follow:
Mr Barney: Nak kija ugak / I want to go to 'work'.
Mr Barney: Nak dok belakang/ I want to sit in front. {I think this started when MakNgah bluffed that sitting in front passenger's seat means 'belakang' to trick Mr Barney into giving up the front seat. The plan backfired. Permanent damage's done.}
Mysanc: Ok, Batman dok belakang. {We are talking 'bout Kancil here. And I don't need two toddlers fighting over the gear stick.}
Once the all the doors closed and lock.
Mr Barney: Nak uyun / Please reverse the car. {I dunno why he associated reversing the car with 'turun'. Maybe the path between the porch and the road outside is a bit slope-y.
Then he'd make sure the windows on each front-side are lowered. Change the radio channel. Sometimes banging his head. Sometimes shaking his body. To the tune of the music.
Once the car moved forward, Batman would dash to front seat. And they'd start fighting. No one wants to give way to the other. Then they'll start to put their heads out.
Mysanc: Saper kuar kepala, MakYong stop keta.
In, the heads went.
But they'd still scream. At the stationary bus. At the cat on the pavement. Harassing the pebbles on the road. Boundless energy... (roll eyes).
Then mysanc would take them for a spin. Passed through the next block of houses, shop lots, the school, the surau and back to the house.
Once in a while, Mr Barney would try to 'pow'-ing power:
Mr Barney: Ite wi ikim ye / We buy icecream, all right?
Mysanc: Kat rumah dah ada ikim.
Selamat ... Coz icecream would lead to toys to God-knows-what ...
