Mastering Skills

This morning I received a call on my cell phone (or 'hand phone' as Malaysian call it). The caller-ID is showing Mak's number. Immediately I said 'Hello'. No reply. I said 'Hello' again. Heard some cartoon noise in the background. 'Hello!' 'Hello!' 'Hello!'. Still no reply. I had a hunch who did it. Immediately I terminated the call. And I called Mak again. This time Mak replied.

mysanc: Mak, Mr Barney main telefon ke?

Mak: Ya lah tu. Tadi dia lari-lari bawak henpon. Jerit, jerit- 'Ai, 'Ai, pon! pon!

{Mr Barney called Mak 'Ai- short for Nyai, grandmother, in Javanese.}

mysanc: Hmm.. patutlah...

After a short conversation, I ended the phone call.

Mr Barney must have randomly pick the number from the call list. {If I lock the cell phone, it would make Mak uncomfortable to release the locked button. Any task which involved more than one button is too much for Mak. Even though I have laid out the steps {complete with drawing} involved in releasing the lock, Mak is still adamant. Bapak wouldn't touch the cell phone with a ten foot pole. He's too busy planting vegetables. Handling phone calls are women's job.}

The thing is, Mr Barney was born technologically savvy {even tho' he doesn't know what the device he touches does. Well he's forgiven. He's just 2 and a half. What can we expect?}

I saw him handled a keyboard. He used fingers from both hands. I've seen him handled a mouse. He used his three fingers to handle each button.

The funny thing is he doesn't know how to ride a bike {even though the bike is for his size}. He dragged his feet all over the lawn (or floor, depending on where he's riding). We tried putting both his feet on the pedals. He put them down.

Well, maybe Mr Barney is taking his own time to learn things {just like when he pushed backward {gostan} after he'd learnt to lay on his abdomen {meniarap} after a while.
