Chatetan ka-tanah suchi by Harun Aminurrashid

The images are pages from the Jawi version of “Chatetan ka-tanah suchi” by Harun Aminurrashid.

Harun Aminurrashid made very fine and interesting observations of his pilgrimage to Makkah on board a ship called “Anshun” . On the ship he witnessed a death and a wedding, all in the same day.

According to him, the ship fares in those days (in the 1960s) was about $997.00 First Class (Salon) for return trip. Of course, there were other minor expenses.
Another interesting comment was made by Haji Ali Ghous who is the “Penguasa Jemaah Haji Seluruh Malaya” during the time. He made the analogy between the effort of performing hajj and a woman in labour:
Berkenaan dengan orang yang menunaikan fardhu haji: seumpama orang perempuan sakit beranak, rasanya tak mahu beranak lagi, tetapi setelah lepas beranak dan melihat wajah anak itu semakin besar ia ingin beranak lagi! Begitulah dengan orang yang pergi menunaikan kerja haji di Mekah itu, tetapi setelah meninggalkan tanah suchi itu semakin terkenang dan hendak pergi lagi.
